Pay TV market subscriber numbers grow by 6.3%
The overall number of digital subscribers for the leading 100 pay-TV services in the world increased by 6.3% last year, according to research firm informitv’s latest quarterly Multiscreen Index.
The index, which covers more than 30 countries and represents around 320 subscriber homes worldwide, reported a net gain of 18.98 subscribers in 2013.
It also noted that 60% of pay TV services in the index now deliver to multiple screens – including smartphones, tablets and other network-connected devices.
“Pay TV providers are launching multiscreen offerings to head off competition from new online subscription video services,” said Dr William Cooper, founder and CEO of informitv.
“Contrary to popular opinion that television subscriptions are in decline, the informitv Multiscreen Index presents a bigger picture that shows the total number of pay TV subscriptions is increasing, particularly in developing markets.”
