Amazon denies free streaming service report
Amazon has denied a Wall Street Journal report, claiming it is looking to launch an advertising-supported TV and music video streaming service.
In a statement to the paper, Amazon said “we’re often experimenting with new things, but we have no plans to offer a free streaming media service.”
The WSJ reported that the proposed service had been outlined to potential partners and could launch in the coming months, marking a change from Amazon’s existing Prime subscription model – which includes unlimited access to Amazon’s Prime Instant Video library for an annual fee of US$99 per year in the US or £79 per year in the UK.
The report comes amid speculation that Amazon could launch its much-rumoured video streaming set-top box at a media event this week.
