ALi launches new Android set-top chip
Chipset manufacturer ALi has launched the M3932, a new high-definition smart set-top system on a chip based on the Android 4.4 KitKat platform.
The chipset targets applications including smart DVB or IPTV set-top boxes, OTT multimedia players, hybrid set-top boxes, and TV dongles, according to ALi. Mass production of M3932 is scheduled in the second quarter.
The M3932 supports DLNA that allows media content to be distributed across devices within the home network. It also enables wireless display mirroring by supporting Miracast, enabling users to echo display from a small-screen device such as a smartphone or tablet onto a TV in real-time via a Wi-Fi Direct connection, according to the company.
“ALi leverages our mature hardware, software, and security expertise to launch M3932. By building a highly-integrated and flexible platform based on Android 4.4 and supporting customers with development, testing, and mass production tools, M3932 significantly reduces development time and effort for customers, which translates to faster time-to-market,” said Jim Li, general manager of ALi’s China Business Unit.
“Furthermore, M3932 provides customers the ability to offer diverse services and brings consumers true freedom to enjoy high definition content across devices.”
