KPN sets out IPTV, 4G and bundled offering focus
Dutch telco KPN said that its focus is now on 4G, IPTV and multiplay bundles, after adding 80,000 IPTV customers in the fourth quarter of 2013.
Announcing its Q4 and full year results, KPN said that its total TV base is now close to 2 million and its TV market share stands at 25%. It also said that triple play packages continued to increase, resulting in a triple play customer base of 1.2 million and a 44% triple play penetration, eight percentage points higher than the same period last year.
Fiber-to-the-home activations increased by 23,000 in Q4, meaning 484,000 homes are now activated. KPN added that its accelerated 4G rollout is on track and reached roughly 80% of the Dutch population at the end of January 2014.
Yet despite these gains, revenues were down 14% year-on-year in Q4 at €2.06 billion. EBITDA was down 29% at €581 million and the firm made a net loss of €108 million – though the latter was a 59% improvement on its loss in the same quarter last year.
“In the Netherlands KPN has successfully introduced quad play in the consumer market and bundled fixed-mobile ICT propositions in the business market. Going forward, the focus in the Netherlands is on 4G, IPTV and bundles driving the take-up of multi play to increase customer loyalty and reduce churn,” said KPN.
