Magine completes German clean sweep with ProSieben channels
The ProSiebenSat.1 bouquet of channels will be added to the Magine service in Germany after the OTT service struck a deal with the German free-to-air broadcast group.
The deal means that from march Magine will carry the SAT.1, ProSieben, Kabel Eins, Sixx, Sat.1 Gold and ProSieben Maxx channels.
Magine has launched a trial version of its service in Germany, allowing beta users to access its service through smart TVs and other connected devices.
In mid-2013 Magine inked a similar deal with ProSieben’s counterpart and rival RTL, giving it the commercial broadcaster’s six free-to-air channels: RTL, Vox, N-TV, RTL Nitro, Super RTL and RTL II.
The company said today that the addition of the P7S1 channels means that it “will be the first OTT service offering a full TV replacement service in Germany, matching traditional TV services with an added flexibility and mobility”.
“For years, ProSiebenSat.1 has promoted the mobile distribution of TV content with its second-screen offers,” said Conrad Albert, executive board member legal, distribution and regulatory affairs at ProSiebenSat.1. “Magine is a strong partner that will further promote the mobile distribution of our TV programs.”
Mattias Hjelmstedt, CEO and co-founder of Magine, added: “We are very proud that ProSiebenSat.1 has chosen Magine as the first platform for the next generation of viewing for their channels. Magine offers broadcasters security on two fronts: firstly, they can maximize their reach by offering viewers new ways to access their content; and secondly – and even more importantly – Magine complies with existing legal requirements and procedures.”
Magine launched last year and has services in Sweden and Spain.
