UK’s TV and creative industries worth £71.4 billion
The UK’s creative industries – including television, film and movies – are now worth more than £71.4 billion (€85.8 billion) per year to the UK economy, according to new government stats.
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport, said that creative industries experienced growth of almost 10% during 2012 and accounted for 1.68 million jobs in 2012 – 5.6% per cent of all UK jobs – in figures announced today.
“These incredible statistics are confirmation that the Creative Industries consistently punch well above their weight, outperforming all the other main industry sectors, and are a powerhouse within the UK economy,” said secretary of state for culture, media and sport, Maria Miller.
“We are committed to ensuring that the energy, innovation, skills and talent existing in this dynamic sector continues to translate into economic success, and provide a remarkable platform from which, we can showcase Britain to the world.”
