Eutelsat KabelKiosk selects HTTV middleware for HbbTV IPTV offering
Eutelsat’s KabelKiosk platform, which serves cable operators in Germany and neighbouring countries, has selected software provider HTTV’s open-middleware for connected TV set-top boxes to power its new wholesale HbbTV IPTV offering.
KabelKiosk will use httvLink, HTTV’s HbbTV middleware, in what HTTV claims will be the first time that HbbTV will be deployed on IPTV networks anywhere in the world.
HTTV CEO Regis Saint Girons said that the deal “demonstrates that HbbTV is a flexible and powerful standard not only for free to air but also for PayTV and IPTV networks.”
KabelKiosk will use HbbTV 1.5 compliant httvLink middleware and IP set top boxes from Korean manufacturer, Kaon Media, for the HbbTV IPTV offering. This will enable IPTV Network Operators to provide advanced connected TV set top boxes to more than 5 million German households. KabelKiosk will also make the content available on iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, as well as PCs and Macs.
