UK outfit provides price comparisons for online TV shows
UK outfit Tank Top TV has launched a web-based directory of TV shows to allow users to compare the cost of streaming or downloading them from online service providers.
According to Tank Top TV, it has built a searchable catalogue of over 73,000 episodes of shows to sit alongside its existing listing of 13,000 digitally available movies.
The database includes US shows Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, Homeland, The West Wing and The Sopranos as well as UK episodes of shows including Luther, Sherlock and Alan Partridge.
Prices are available for over 2,500 digital TV box sets, according to the company.
Users can click on a programme and identify which services it is available on. The range of platforms covered includes Lovefilm, iTunes and Blinkbox as well as Now TV, Google Play, BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD, Demand 5 and Sky’s on-demand service.
Tank Top TV already offers a similar movie comparison service across 22 different on-demand and download platforms including many of the services now being used for TV as well as the EE Film Store, KnowHow, Film4oD and Virgin Online Movies.
London-based startup Tank Top TV is part of the Wayra accelerator programme run by O2/Telefonica. The company plans to generate revenue by selling data collected anonymously on viewing habits.
