Roku launch for 4oD
Terrestrial broadcaster Channel 4 has launched its catch-up service 4oD on Roku internet streaming boxes in the UK.
The news, announced yesterday, came at the same time that Sky announced that it was adding 4oD, to its internet-streaming Now TV Box – a cut-price, white label version of Roku’s hardware.
Roku said that 4oD is available now on its Roku 3 player and will be available on additional Roku player models in the future.
The launch sees 4oD join the BBC iPlayer, Sky’s Now TV and Channel 5’s Demand 5 on the device – “bringing an additional 3000 hours of streaming entertainment to customers at no extra cost,” said Roku.
“We’re always looking for new places we can ensure our viewers can enjoy our popular on-demand service, and are delighted to add this to the portfolio,” said Laurence Dawkin-Jones, director of commercial and business development at Channel 4.
