Orange strikes mobile TV deal with collecting societies

Orange France has struck a new deal with rights-holders collecting societies ADAGP, SACD, SACEM and SCAM covering the distribution of TV programmes via ADSL, fibre optic networks, satellite and, for the first time, mobile TV.

Pascal Rogard, director-general of SACD, said that the agreement was important not only because it set the terms for the remuneration of writers for the distribution of programmes on TV but because it extended this remuneration to access via mobile devices.

Pierre Louette, deputy CEO and secretary-general of Orange, said that the agreement signaled the awareness of all parties of the challenges facing each and took into account “the economic and technological evolution, the deep changes in the market and the multiplication of offerings proposed by new intermediaries, notably foreign ones”.

Louette said that  the deal showed that content creation and digital development could be compatible and even complementary.
