Ziggo launches CI+ 1.3-compatible interactive TV

Dutch cable operator Ziggo is this week launching interactive TV services for customers with a Ziggo certified TV and a new CI+ Module (version 1.3 or higher). 

The move means that customers without a separate digital receiver will still be able to access interactive services like watching TV shows or movies on-demand.

Ziggo said that the launch would make interactive services easier for viewers to use and claimed it is the first operator in the world to roll this out without the need for a separate set-top box.

‘This development offers our customers great benefits. With the interactive CI+ Module, customers can watch movies, television series and missed TV programmes directly on their TV-set and without the need for extra equipment, extra leads or an extra remote control,” said Pieter Vervoort, VP consumer products and innovation at Ziggo.

Since the beginning of this year, an increasing number of televisions are being equipped with a CI+ version 1.3, said Ziggo. These include sets made by Samsung, LG and Philips.
