Revenue boost compensates subscriber loss for Canal Digital
Improved ARPU helped boost Telenor’s Canal Digital pay TV arm during the third quarter despite a net loss in subscriber numbers.
Revenues from Canal Digital grew to NOK1.146 billion (€142 million), up from NOK1.109 billion, while satellite broadcasting revenues were essentially flat year-on-year at NOK241 million.
Canal Digital lost 3,000 TV subscribers over the quarter, ending with 502,000. Broadband internet customers grew by 3,000 to 855,000, while telephony customers grew by 23,000 to 1.082 million.
In Sweden, Telenor lost 2,000 TV subscribers during the third quarter, ending with 254,000.
Transmission arm Norkring saw revenues rise to NOK270 million from NOK235 million, while conditional access specialist Conax’s revenues grew from NOK121 million to NOK145 million.
Total EBITDA from broadcast activities was NOK570 million, up from NOK545 million.
Telenor posted revenues of NOK1.262 billion from internet and TV customers in Norway at the end of the third quarter, up from NOK1.218 billion a year earlier.
