TiVo launches out-of-home Roamio streaming
DVR maker TiVo has launched out-of-home streaming on its TiVo Roamio Pro and TiVo Roamio Plus DVRs for the first time.
TiVo said that customers can now stream and download live TV and recorded content to their smartphones and tablets from anywhere, providing a “better experience for TV lovers.”
“Until now, your shows have been locked up in your set top box at home. Now with a TiVo Roamio DVR, whether it’s a hotel in Denmark, the waiting room at the dentist office, when you’re stuck at the airport, or at the gym, out-of-home streaming gives you the level of choice, control and freedom that consumers have come to expect from TiVo,” said Jim Denney, vice-president of product marketing at TiVo.
The Roamio boxes allow users to watch live or recorded shows remotely over Wi-Fi, download content to watch offline. TiVo’s second screen dashboard also offers personalised recommendations and manage recordings.
TiVo first unveiled its Roamio boxes in August and there are three models of the box, TiVo Roamio, TiVo Roamio Plus, and TiVo Roamio Pro, priced at $199.99, $399.99 and $599.99 respectively.
The out-of-home streaming is being enabled via an automatic software and mobile app update and is possible on iOS devices. Support for streaming over 4G/LTE and to Android devices is scheduled for 2014, said TiVo.
