Tablets and e-readers owned by 43% of Americans

Tablet and e-book reader ownership has now reached 43% of Americans aged 16 and over, according to new stats by the Pew Research Centre. 

Separately, the number of Americans aged 16 and older who own tablet computers has grown to 35%, and the share who have e-reading devices like Kindles and Nooks has grown to 24%.

This is up from 25% tablet and 19% e-book ownership in November 2012. The combined figure has climbed by ten percentage points year-on-year from 33% in November last year.

In terms of user demographic, tablet ownership was roughly divided between men at 34% and women at 36%, with the highest proportion of ownership among 16 and 17 year-olds, at 46%.

E-book reader ownership skewed more towards women at 27% compared to 22% of men, with these devices most popular among the 30-49 demographic at 30%.
