QuickPlay Media launches Network PVR solution
QuickPlay Media, a provider of cloud-based managed service solutions for distributing premium media to IP-connected devices, is due to demo its new Network PVR (nPVR) solution at IBC.
Announced today, the nPVR enables recording and playback of live TV content on OTT devices including mobile phones, tablets, PCs, connected TVs and games consoles.
Cable operators and multiscreen service providers can use nPVR to launch new live TV services or augment their TV Everywhere offerings with advanced features when used in conjunction with QuickPlay’s Live TV managed service, according to the company.
With nPVR, live TV content is recorded and indexed for a set period in the cloud, allowing viewers to pause and record live TV and time-shift back and forward during playback. They can also start playback at the beginning of the show automatically, regardless of what point they tuned in, or scroll back through content via a backwards EPG.
QuickPlay claims these features improve user experience and engagement and also reduce the costs of hard drives and physical set-top boxes for customers when deployed by their multiscreen service provider.
“In the competitive pay TV market, nPVR enables cable operators and multiscreen services providers to offer on demand content for hundreds of Live channels with quick and easy support for new devices, networks and features requiring limited if any in-house development resources,” said QuickPlay Media.
The company’s chief marketing officer, Charlotte Burke, added: “Multiscreen service providers must improve the user experience in order to meet consumer expectations and nPVR provides a unique set of features that can help give them an advantageous edge in this fast-maturing market.”
QuickPlay Media will exhibit at IBC on stand 14.381.
