ADB launches multiscreen solution with nc+ as first customer
Advanced Digital Broadcast (ADB) has unveiled ADB Multi-Screen, a software suite that combines broadcast and broadband delivery with home network content redistribution for an enhanced user experience across multiple screens at home and on the move.
ADB Multi-Screen has already been deployed by Poland’s largest satellite operator, nc+. nc+ has remotely configured its deployed ADB set-top boxes with the multi-screen software, enabling the STBs to act as a digital TV gateway for other STBs and iOS/ Android devices.
ADB Multi-Screen’s software-only solution can be downloaded to ADB set-top boxes already in use and dispenses with the need for a hardware transcoder, according to the company.
ADB Multi-Screen incorporates content protection and enables pay TV operators to deliver linear broadcast TV, OTT video, metadata and related services to set-tops and iOS/Android tablets and smartphones. The company’s state- ADB Carbo user interface facilitates content sharing and ‘follow-me’ TV features across multiple devices.
When subscribers are on the move, ADB Multi-Screen uses a cloud-based model to redistribute live broadcast channels to authorised mobile devices.
“ADB’s deep knowledge of digital television has led to the development of what we consider to be ground-breaking technology: a software-only solution that eliminates the need for hardware transcoding. As result, we are able to configure STBs already deployed in subscribers’ homes to act as TV gateways, significantly reducing our CAPEX,” said Jan Frelek new business development Director at nc+.
“Our goal was to create and deploy a new type of secure multi-screen solution that didn’t rely on a pure cloud model or on the need for expensive hardware transcoders. With ADB Multi-Screen, nc+’s subscribers get an unrivalled, hybrid broadband/broadcast multi-screen experience, while nc+ reaps the benefits of a software-only deployment that makes use of the existing ADB STBs in subscribers’ homes. ADB Multi-Screen has allowed nc+ to deploy a transformational multi-screen service incredibly cost-effectively,” said Krzysztof Biliński, general manager and broadcast division head at ADB.
