Showtime signs smart TV interactivity deal with LG
US broadcaster Showtime Networks has partnered with LG Electronics to make it easier for viewers to interact with its TV shows.
Showtime will use LG’s LivePlus technology to offer its Sho Sync app on 2012 and 2013 models of LG internet-connected TVs, meaning viewers can access interactive content, delivered automatically to their TV, without the need to install any apps or download content.
The Sho Sync app originally launched as an iPad companion app, offering special features, character backgrounds, interactive trivia and polls at precise points for Showtime series like Dexter and Ray Donovan. Sho Sync for Smart TVs is designed to deliver the same experience to the main TV screen.
Donald Buckley, executive vice-president, program marketing and digital services, Showtime Networks, said that Sho Sync for Smart TVs offers “a rich and interactive experience with a strong focus on content, where consumers can enjoy their favourite Showtime series. For the first time, viewers can click a single button using their remotes and interact in a completely new way with our programming.”
Showtime Networks is a wholly-owned subsidiary of CBS Corporation and owns and operates premium television networks including Showtime, The Movie Channel and Flix.
