Young technologist award winners named
With IBC looming, the UK’s Royal Television Society (RTS) and the International Association of Broadcasting Manufacturers (IABM) have separately named the winners of their respective awards for young technologists, prizes for which include financial support for attending the show.
Arqiva business manager Daniel Cherowbrier has been named winner of the RTS Young Technologist Award for 2013.
Cherowbrier previously previously managed the Feltham multiplexing centre housing the systems for the
three commercial multiplexes on Freeview and recently moved to the role of business manager at Arqiva Digital Platforms, which involves bridging the divide between traditional platforms and emerging technologies, according to the RTS.
“The RTS Young Technologist of the Year recognises the potential future leaders in broadcasting and related
technologies. The jury was impressed with Daniel’s technical know-how, drive and management skills as well as his entrepreneurial talents, and look forward to great things from him in the future,” said Terry March, chair of the RTS Young Technologist Award jury.
The IABM meanwhile has named the winners of its 2013 Engineering Student Awards. This year’s winners are Zoe Wyeth of the University of Salford, Julian Theis of the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences, Adam Plowden and Amy Tinker of Kingston University, Pierre Hamme-Gerome and Antonin Morel of the Université de Valenciennes, Kathryn Savage of Southampton Solent University, Lennard Bredenkamp of HTWK Leipzig, and Evgenii Smirnov and Anna Nikolaeva of St Petersburg State University of Film and Television.
“Once again, the IABM Engineering Student Awards recognise a remarkable group of young men and women and provides them with the resources to see the latest developments in broadcast and media technology, learn from senior industry figures, and perhaps even meet a future employer,” said Roger Crumpton, a founding director and trustee of the IABM Educational Foundation which funds the programme.
