Hispasat eyes 4K channel launch
Spanish satellite operator Hispasat plans to launch a 4K channel that will allow the industry to broadcast in the ultra high-definition standard.
The firm said it will soon formally announce the commissioning of the channel, in its latest show of support for the ultra HD technology.
The news came as Hispasat signed an agreement with RTVE, Abertis Telecom and production studio Apuntolapospo to sponsor a 50-minute documentary about Spain’s main art museum, the Museo del Prado in Milan, shot in 4K.
Hispasat has already trialled 4K transmissions in Brazil, Spain and several European countries and said it is cutting deals with technology partners to promote the technology’s “dissemination and knowledge between producers and users.”
