Nordnet and SES launch on-demand French broadband offering

France Telecom-Orange’s satellite broadband affiliate NordNet has developed a new on-demand satellite broadband offering, using additional Ka-band capacity on the SES satellite ASTRA 2F.

SES said that NordNet’s ‘Satellite Internet Tempo’ service is based on its broadband services technology, offers download speeds of up to 20 Mbit/s, and is aimed at people with second residences and holiday homes in France.

The service offers on-demand internet access for a monthly subscription of €3, which gives a permanent Voice over IP telephone connection, access to television channels from the ASTRA orbital slot 19.2 degrees East, and the option for customers to order an internet pass for €2.99 per day.

“We are convinced that this new offering, with its Triple Play features, is a complete solution that responds to currently unserved needs in the market,” said Patrick Biewer, managing director of SES Broadband Services, claiming it is the first on-demand satellite-based internet service for second residences and holiday homes in France.
