Elemental signs Teleste deal
Multiscreen technology specialist Elemental Technologies has partnered with Finland-based technology company Teleste to power the latter’s Optimo OTT solution.
The deal marks a formalisation of Elemental’s channel partnership with Teleste and marks Elementals first major push into the European cable market, said Elemental’s VP of marketing Keith Wymbs at a press briefing in London.
Telesete Live will underpin Teleste’s Optimo product, which is a multiscreen solution for managing and distributing TV channels, interactive services on DVB, IPTV and OTT networks to set-top boxes, tablets, PCs, and smart phones.
“Telesete is a major powerhouse in the European cable market. We have not had a very high focus I would say on European cable – we’ve been focused mostly on some IPTV wins and obviously the traditional broadcasters and rights holders – but this is going to be our entry into the cable market in Europe,” said Wymbs.
Delivering an update about Elemental’s technological progress since the NAB conference earlier this year, Wymbs said that at NAB it debuted 4K H.264. Now the company has advanced its HEVC software codec implementation to support 4K/H.265.
Live processing of 1080P HEVC at 3.2 mbps was also demoed at NAB. Wymbs said that Elemental’s technology has since advanced to enable 1080P HEVC at below 2.8 mbps. “We believe we are innovating faster than anyone in the industry and have made HEVC available to any customer that want to license it,” said Wymbs.
He added that the firm’s recently launched Elemental Cloud Platform as a Service (PaaS) is now being deployed on three continents. Elemental Cloud PaaS is designed to let customers use cloud-based servers to meet peak demand and then scale back down as demand diminishes.
