Kosovan public broadcaster launches minority channel

Kosovan public broadcaster RTK has launched a second channel to serve the country’s largest minority groups.

RTK 2 will programmes in the Serbian language, along with Bosnian, Turkish and Roma programmes.

The channel will have a 50-strong staff, including journalists, editors, camera operators and film editors.

Kosovo’s population is 90% ethic Albanian, with the Serbs forming the largest minority.

The EBU established RTK in 1999 under an international mandate. The new channel is being launched as part of a an EU-financed EBU action plan designed to strengthen the public service media of EU accession countries.
