Apple hits 50 billion app downloads

Apple has hit 50 billion app downloads through its App Store, the firm confirmed.

The new milestone comes just months after Apple hit 40 billion downloads – in January of this year – having notched up nearly 20 billion downloads in 2012 alone.

Apple launched the App Store for iOS devices in 2008, following the release of the first generation of iPhone in 2007.
