Russian DTT platform will not be encrypted, says report
Russia’s ministry of communications has decided not to introduce encryption on the first and second multiplexes on the country’s digital-terrestrial platform, according to a local report.
According to the ComNews website, citing sources close to the ministry of communications, broadcast infrastructure provider RTRS’s director-general Andrei Romanchenko told a meeting of the ministry’s TV and broadcasting working group earlier this week that the opportunity to introduce conditional access for the first and second multiplexes had been missed and that a decision to implement it now would require the mass replacement of equipment by consumers.
The introduction of conditional access support was opposed by a number of industry players including cable
Association AKTR.
