Totalmovie plans April revamp, ME and CEE expansion
Latin American VOD service Totalmovie is to relaunch its website and go live on more platforms in April, at the same time as it rolls out live channel feeds as part of its offering.
Totalmovie, which claims to be the number two VOD service in the region behind Netflix, will relaunch its web client, along with smartphone and tablet apps for both iOS and Android, and apps for a range of smart televisions and gaming consoles, company CEO Robert Delamar told DTVE.
Totalmovie has partnered with the TV App Agency, which is working on the TV app deployments, and will demo the service at TV Connect on Thursday. The relaunch comes at the same time that Totalmovie adds additional live channel feeds to its VOD movie and TV show catalogue, a move which it first announced in November last year.
For this, Totalmovie has already signed a content deal with BBC Worldwide and will also air live Azteca TV content – which is owned by the same parent as Totalmovie, Grupo Salinas. Totalmovie will roll out its live offering to 40 plus countries across Latin America and the Caribbean – in markets excluding Brazil. Here the firm is finalising a telco partnership agreement that will see it launch a co-branded video offering.
Though details of this partnership could not yet be revealed, Delamar said that it aimed to announce a similar deal with a major operator in the Middle East in the third quarter of this year, in what would be its first move outside of the Latin American market.
“I’m pretty confident we’ll have some business in central and eastern Europe by Q4,” he said. “We are now very much pursuing opportunities outside of our core Latin American market,” said Delamar. “The trends now for live television over-the-top, seem irreversible – there will be live over-the-top television services launching throughout the world in 2013, partly driven by the TotalMovie platform.”
