Hulu future in discussion

News Corp and the Walt Disney Company are reportedly in talks about their future interests in jointly held VoD site Hulu – which they co-own with Comcast.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, the two firms have expressed interest in recent months about buying one another out – with a possible outcome that one firm takes the other’s stake or both sell to an third party.

Disney and News Corp have been at odds about the future direction of the company for “some time” the report claims, with News Corp said to be keen to focus on the subscription-based Hulu Plus side of the business and Disney preferring the ad-supported model.

The news comes after Hulu CEO Jason Kilar and chief technology officer Rich Tom announced in January that they are leaving the US online TV company this quarter.
