Swisscom to roll out FTTS with Huawei

Swisscom has chosen Huawei as technology partner for a planned rollout of fibre-to-the-street to deliver high-speed broadband to 80% of Swiss households by 2020. The investment will be worth about CHF300 million (€244 million) over eight years. Swisscom’s total infrastructure investment for this year is expected to run to CHF1.75 billion.

Swisscom is rolling out FTTS in areas outside major urban centres. The company will begin offering the service in areas where it is not offering FTTH from the end of this year. According to Swisscom, the network will initially deliver internet speeds of up to 100Mbps, rising to 400Mbps within the next three to four years.
