Ofcom rules in BBC Worldwide’s favour in VOD case
UK communications regulator Ofcom has ruled in favour of BBC Worldwide in a case concerning whether video-on-demand regulator ATVOD had jurisdiction to rule on Worldwide’s YouTube channels.
Worldwide, the commercial arm of UK public broadcaster the BBC, appealed an earlier Ofcom ruling that the YouTube channels were on-demand services and therefore were subject to the rules set out and policed by ATVOD.
Following the appeal, Ofcom overturned its earlier decision, meaning the channels in question, Top Gear and BBC Food, do not fall under remit of ATVOD.
