iPlayer passes 200 million monthly requests for the first time
The number of iPlayer requests passed 200 million for the first time ever in October, with a total of 213 million requests being made. Of that total, 165 million requests were for TV programmes, up from 150 million the previous month and 134 million for the same period last year.
A fifth of all BBC iPlayer requests came from internet-connected TV devices in October, and requests from mobile and tablets increased by 17% since September, the broadcaster said. Mobiles and tablets accounted for 23% of all requests.
The most requested TV programme during October was part one, series five of Merlin, with 1,063,00 requests, followed by Panorama Jimmy Saville – What the BBC Knew, with 998,000 requests.
