Spanish pubcaster combines internet and TV units



RTVE has merged its online division with its main TV unit. The two were previously distinct entities and the move comes as the Spanish public broadcaster continues to look for cost savings.


The merger of rtve.es into the TV division has reportedly met with resistance from organisations representing workers in the online division, which claim combining the two is not the best way to drive cooperation among broadcast and online.

The news follows recent reports from groups representing staff that suggest RTVE is planning swingeing job cuts and could be planning to reduce its headcount by almost 2,000.
