KPN to acquire fibre networks
The Dutch competition authority has approved Dutch telco KPN’s acquisition of four fibre-based service providers from Reggeborgh.
KPN announced its intention to acquire the networks in November 2011. The deal will see KPN’s FTTH subscriber base increase by 120,000 homes to a total of around 300,000. All four networks acquired by KPN offer TV, broadband and telephony services.
“The acquisition of the fibre service providers increases our broadband market share to 41%, allows us to strengthen our FttH presence and shows our continued commitment to FTTH,” said Eelco Blok, CEO KPN. “We see FTTH as the long-term superior infrastructure, while providing good operational results in the short to medium-term, such as increasing broadband and TV market shares and higher ARPU. Next to our FTTH network, the continued progress on the upgrades of our copper network is equally essential as this will enable KPN to offer its full range of products to its customers.”
