Megafon adopts Dune HD plug-in OTT device
Set-top box manufacturer Dune HD has launched a compact stick format device, HD Connect, that can be plugged into a TV HDMI slot and used to stream content through built-in WiFi via a home internet connection.
The device can be used to deliver connected TV services to non-Smart TVs, allowing users to access OTT and IPTV streaming services.
The device has been adopted by Russian mobile telecom operator Megafon. Vitaly Starodubov, chief operating officer of MegaLabs, the company’s innovation arm, said that HD Connect would strengthen its position in the Russian digital TV market.
“As a long-standing Dune customer, MegaFon is excited about the HD Connect providing an even more compact and simple way to deliver our content,” said Starodubov.
HD Connect is available with optional cable or terrestrial digital TV tuners as well as 3D video support. Through an inbuilt micro SD slot and a USB port, it can also be connected to local media content in the home.
“The market for streaming services is growing dramatically, particularly for operators delivering consumer, hospitality and ethnic content. The Dune HD Connect enables them to deliver this content to the widest range of subscribers, without replacing their existing TVs or having to find room for bulky set top boxes,” said Konstantin Dyshlevoy, CEO, Dune HD.
