Orange launches cloud-based gaming for TV customers

Orange is to launch a cloud-based video gaming service as part of its Orange TV service.

The service, scheduled to launch on October 11, will give users access to streaming video games on-demand from the Orange TV menu. Gamers will not need to download any special software to play. Games will be available for free for the first 10 minutes of play.

The French service provider is offering three ways of accessing the service. Users can acquire a Pass Jeux Découverte for €5 a month, giving access to up 504 games. A Pass Jeux Premium for €10 a month gives access to 100 games including Ubisoft’s H.A.W.X 2 and Disney’s Toy Story 3 for kids. Finally, users can also rent games on an à la carte basis for 24 or 48 hours or for a week.

The cloud-based gaming service allows users to access multi-player games including Lego Pirates des Caraibes from Disney and comes complete with parental control functionality.

The service has been developed in partnership with cloud gaming specialist G-Cluster.

Orange says that the service is compatible with multiple handsets other than the dedicated handset offered by the service provider itself.

For an initial two-month promotional period Orange is offering free use for 24 hours of Ubisoft’s Les Lapins Crétins – La Grosse Aventure and a 50% reduction on the two Pass Jeux offerings It is also offering its handset for €14 instead of the normal €28.
