Alcatel-Lucent passes one million GPON units in 2Q

Alcatel-Lucent says it shipped over one million GPON fibre-to-the-home ports in the second quarter, making it a record three months for GPON sales.

Alcatel-Lucent said FTTH growth was being driven by China and the US in particular. In Europe, where recent deals include one to supply Bulgarian telco Vivacom, Alcatel-Lucent is the market leader in GPON. Other EMEA deals last quarter include one to supply equipment to Telkom South Africa.
