Sky welcomes 4oD and increases Sky Go offer
UK pay TV operator is adding Channel 4’s online catch-up platform 4oD to its on-demand service. Sky is also rolling Channel 4’s linear channels across its multiscreen portal.
The operator has struck a deal with the commercial broadcaster to bring its 4oD on-demand platform to broadband-connected Sky Plus HD boxes from next year. 4oD offers hundreds of hours of recent and library content.
Under the deal, Sky will also roll out Channel 4’s eponymous flagship channel along with E4, More 4 and Film 4 to its Sky Go multiscreen platform. Channel 4 will be the first terrestrial channel to join Sky Go’s line-up, joining Disney, ESPN, Turner, Nickelodeon and British Eurosport. Sky Go is available on Apple devices, Android smartphones, PCs, Macs and the Xbox 360 games console.
HD versions of Film4 and More4 are also being added to Sky’s main line-up, joining existing channels Channel 4 HD and E4 HD. The additions will take the total number of HD channels available on the network to 66.
Rob Webster, director of Sky’s commercial group, said: “We already offer the best of pay TV on-demand and on-the-go, and now, with the addition of Channel 4, we’re adding the complete line-up of terrestrial shows too. No other service will offer greater choice or convenience. Sky homes are embracing innovations such as Sky Go and TV on-demand in record numbers, and the addition of more quality content will create even more value for our customers.”
