ITV wants Premier League matches from BT
UK commercial broadcaster ITV is trying to strike a deal with telco BT that will enable it to show Premier League football matches for the first time.
The broadcaster is in talks with BT to show some of the 154 matches that the telco has the rights to on one of its terrestrial channels, according to the Telegraph. The deal could see ITV producing coverage of the matches.
In June, BT won the broadcast rights to 38 matches a season for three seasons from 2013 in a deal worth £738 million (€935 million). Soon after the Premier League announced the results of the bidding process, BT revealed plans for a new sports channel that will take advantage of its high-speed fibre network to deliver “new interactive features” to BT Vision customers.
According to reports, BT is also talking to ITV and other parties about helping it to produce the new channel, offering £100 million over three years.
