South African box makers given month to respond to DTT call
Digital set-top manufacturers have until the end of this month to respond to a request for proposals issued by the South African government for digital-terrestrial receivers.
The government has committed to subsidise boxes for about five million of the country’s 11 million-plus households.
The RFP includes a USB 2.0 port to enable return path functionality.
Bids to supply receivers will be evaluated by a special committee, based on a points system. Prospective suppliers must be accredited under the BBBEE scheme designed to encourage economic empowerment of the country’s black majority population.
