Portugal Telecom launches TV Everywhere with 60 channels

Portugal Telecom has launched a new mobile TV service that delivers 60 live TV channels and on-demand content to smartphones and tablet devices.

The Meo Go service is available to PT subscribers on Android, Apple iOS and Windows-based smartphones and tablets. International channels including AXN, FOX, MTV, Disney Channel and National Geographic Channel are available, along with sports channels Eurosport, Chelsea TV, Manchester United TV and Barca TV.

PT is using technology from Alcatel-Lucent and AuthenTec to deliver Meo Go.

Alfredo Baptista, Portugal Telecom’s chief technology officer, said: “Delivering live and video-on-demand content directly to mobile users just like on a TV was a daunting technical challenge, but thanks to strong support from Alcatel-Lucent and AuthenTec we were able to launch our new Meo Go service on budget and ahead of schedule. Meo Go significantly expands the number of subscribers we can reach.”
