New BBC boss considers Worldwide revamp
Incoming BBC director general George Entwistle is considering a strategic repositioning of the public broadcaster’s commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, according to the Guardian newspaper.
Entwistle (pictured) officially takes up the DG role in September and the newspaper report says that he will look into reducing the range of activities Worldwide carries out with a view to tying it more closely to the public service remit of the BBC.
The Guardian speculates that the investigation into Worldwide means that questions could be asked about John Smith’s long-term future as Worldwide’s chief executive.
