DNA takes stake in online video storage provider Booxmedia
Finnish telecom and pay TV operator DNA has taken a 20% stake in Booxmedia, operator of BooxTV, a service that enables the online storage of TV content for smartphones and tablets.
DNA will offer the BooxTV service free of charge for six months to its phone and broadband customers as a result of the deal. DNA will also undertake other marketing initiatives on behalf of Booxmedia.
BooxTV 3.0, the latest version of the service, enables the storage of programme-specific content and works across iOS and Android devices. A version for Windows Phone is to be released over the summer.
“We are really enthusiastic about this cooperation with Booxmedia. The highly innovative BooxTV service produced by the company offers entirely new application modes and usage locations which we believe will bring a lot of added value to our customers. As Finland’s leading TV operator and an exceptionally advanced mobile operator, it is natural for us to expand our operations into offering television services also via mobile terminal devices,” said Mikko Saarentaus, DNA’s director of television services.
