DVB to highlight DVB-C2 ahead of German launch
Ahead of the planned rollout of DVB-C2-based digital cable services in Germany, the DVB (Stand B18) plans to use ANGA Cable to showcase the new standard along with a demonstration of the terrestrial DVB-T2 standard.
According to the DVB, the DVB-C2 demonstration will show how the standard is winning growing support from manufacturers with the development of new products. Visitors to the DVB’s stand will be able to see the latest offerings in a demonstration in cooperation with Sony and Kabel Deutschland. The demonstration will include a Sony DVB-C2 iDTV and, also from Sony, the world’s first DVB-C2 silicon evaluation board (or demodulator).
The demo for DVB-T2 will comprise the transmission of four HD streams at 40 Mbps in 8MHz with a DekTec DVB-T2 modulator, and being received by a DVB-T2 iDTV as well as a DVB-T2 set-top box from Vestel.
The DVB is also presenting a technology panel on ‘Hot Topics in DVB’ as part of the official conference programme on Tuesday June 12 from 15:00-16:15. The session, in English, is hosted by the DVB’s executive director, Peter Siebert, and features presentations on: DVB-C2 by Christoph Schaaf, vice-president, new technologies, Kabel Deutschland; CI Plus by Paul Szucs, senior manager, technology standards, Sony Europe; DVB-T2 by Stefan Krueger, head of broadcast platforms and services, LBPS, Media Broadcast; and Easy Use of DVB with Logical Channel Numbering by Piero Kirchner, chief technology officer, Blankom Antennentechnik.
