Kroes to set out net neutrality recommendations
Neelie Kroes, the European Commission vice-president, has unveiled a plan to set out recommendations on network neutrality.
Kroes plans to require ISPs to provide clear information on the real speeds offered to subscribers along with detailed information on limits and restrictions.
Kroes’ announcement came as the European telecom regulators group BEREC released a survey of practices by fixed and mobile ISPs that showed that a significant number of mobile broadband users had contracts that allowed their service provider to restrict access to certain services, while about 20% of fixed-line ISPs implemented restrictions at peak times.
