European DTH revenues to inch up in 2012-14

Revenues from DTH services in western Europe will continue their slow upward trajectory this year and top US$15 billion (€12 billion) by 2015, according to new research from Informa Telecoms & Media.

In the UK BSkyB recently recorded a modest quarterly subscriber increase and its Italian counterpart lost over 80,000 customers as economic conditions impacted its customer base. Informa forecasts that there will be revenues of US$14.3 billion at end-2012 compared with US$14 billion at end-2011. The total will increase to US$14.7 billion next year and to US$15.1 billion by end-2014.

DTH revenues in eastern Europe meanwhile will increase at a similar rate, albeit from a much smaller base. There were revenues of US$2.6 billion from eastern Europe from the end of last year and that total will rise to US$2.8 billion this year. It will top three million in 2014 when the year-end total will be US$3.1 billion.
