France Télévisions to launch VOD service

French public broadcaster France Télévisions is to launch a video-on-demand service, Pluzz VaD, this week, according to local reports.

According to financial daily Les Echos, Pluzz VaD will offer about 3,000 titles across five genres – movies, documentaries and magazine shows, drama series, kids programmes, and live events. The service will be available initially on Free’s IPTV service, and is expected to be made available via other distribution platforms between now and the end of this year.

The service extends France Télévisions’ existing foray into non-linear TV, the Pluzz seven-day catch-up TV service, into pay VOD with a seven-day constraint.

France Télévisions intends to offer a large film catalogue comprising French films, with US titles to follow. According to Les Echos, the broadcaster is proposing a 50:50 revenue split with rights holders.

Commercial broadcasters TF1 and M6 already offer their own VOD service in France.
