Italy scraps DTT allocation and starts again


Italian authorities have scrapped the current plans to distribute digital terrestrial television frequencies and are restarting the process.

The Italian Ministry of Industry announced that it would restart the process and would scrap the plans to give the channels away for free as part of a beauty contest. Minister Corrado Passera said that a new decision will be made later this month and would be expected by April 20. 
The government is expected to receive around €1.2 billion for the frequencies. Passera told Italian newspaper La Repubblica that he didn’t think it was a good idea to give away valuable government assets for free.
