Rostelecom selects Mototola Mobility for digital rollout

Russian telco Rostelecom is deploying new Motorola Mobility’s IPTV set-top boxes as it expands its digital network across the country.

Motorola said its VIP1003 and VIP1963 set-tops will be deployed in early 2012.

The VIP1003 is a low-cost HD receiver, while the VIP1963 a higher-end IP media centre with built-in hard-disk drive for DVR functionality.

“Today’s announcement marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration between Rostelecom and Motorola Mobility to bring leading edge solutions and services to the Russian market,” said Pavel Zaitsev, vice-president, director for commerce, Rostelecom. “As an established leader in IPTV and video delivery, Motorola’s solutions are both innovative and cost effective and will help us to differentiate and attract new customers as we grow our business across the country.”

Separately, Motorola is to distribute EdgeCast’s portfolio of content delivery network solutions to service providers worldwide.
