Two in three Poles failing to pay licence fee
Only one in three Poles are currently paying their national TV licence fee, according to data released by the country’s broadcasting regulator, the KRRiT.
According to the regulator, 65% of the country’s population don’t pay the licence fee, compared with around 5% in the UK and only 2% in Germany.
The funding of state broadcasting is politically contentious. The Civic Platform-led government previously moved to abolish the licence fee in favour of direct funding from government ministries, but the plan was vetoed by the late president, Lech Kaczynski.
