TV 2 becomes Norway’s first live 3D broadcaster
TV 2 became Norway’s first broadcaster to air live 3D last night when it delivered the Norway v Cyprus football match from the national football stadium in Oslo in 3D.
TV 2’s OB team used its recently-acquired 3D-ready OB truck to produce the broadcast. Five 3D cameras were set up within the stadium to provide 3D images that were delivered to Canal Digital’s cable and DTH customers. The broadcast came ahead of TV 2’s proposed online 3D broadcast on Saturday when it will air a Premier League match in 3D to web TV and IPTV viewers.
Yesterday’s broadcast was delivered in cooperation with Norway-based video contribution and distribution technology company T-VIPS. TV 2 used T-VIPS’s TVG450 JPEG2000 Gateway solution. It was first used in 2009 and has since been involved in a number of live 3D projects, including opera in Sweden and the IAAF World Athletics championships that were held in Korea earlier this year.
