Bouygues to launch next-generation set-top
French ISP Bouygues Telecom is to launch a next-generation combined set-top box before the end of the year, according to local reports.
The launch of the set-top, which will provide internet and TV access in a single device and has been dubbed the ‘one box’, will include a 350GB hard drive and 1GB RAM, and will be based on the Intel Groveland chipset. The Samsung-built device will also include WiFi connectivity developed by Israel-based Celeno that allows the transmission of TV signals wirelessly over greater distances.
The move is intended to place Bouygues, which offers its service over the Numericable-Completel network, on an equal footing with larger fixed-line rivals including Free.
