TVN acquires stake in DTT licensee

Polish broadcaster TVN has acquired a stake in local production company Stavka that has also been awarded a licence to launch a digital-terrestrial television channel next year. The network has paid PLN1.1 million (€265,000) for a 25% stake in the company, which is currently owned by media firm Besta-Film Group.

Stavka was one of the first companies to be awarded a DTT licence as part of the first multiplex and will launch general entertainment channel U-TV next year. It will be added as part of the country’s DTT premium offer and will consist of programming from TVN’s library. TVN will also handle advertising sales for the channel.

“We believe in the strong potential of U-TV and that the both parties will benefit from the sales cooperation within the premium TV. Thanks to Stavka owner’s – Besta-Film – infrastructure and the TVN Group’s support, U-TV is set to become one of the most interesting offerings within the first multiplex,” said channel boss Olgierd Dobrzy.
